The Last Tire

Ron served in WWII from 1940-1943 and had various jobs prior to Firestone. During the war he served on a destroyer cruising over the Atlantic and Southern Pacific oceans. His son, Ron, can remember the smell of resin and rubber on his dad each morning as he cooked his breakfast when he arrived home from a hard night of work. On June 12, 1981, Ron produced the last tire to come off the assembly line. He celebrated 41 years of service with Firestone and retired in 1983. His son shared how respected and tough being a tire maker truly was. Ron is now 97 in great health, driving, mending his house, and taking care of himself. It was hard work, but he had to make sacrifices to take care of his family. To this day he still has dreams of making tires.
