Dan Mainzer worked at Firestone from 1976-1981 and at General Tire from 1982-1987. He was the in-house photographer for Firestone and specialized in a wide range of product photography. That experience taught Dan a great deal about the impact the rubber industry has had on our community, nation, and world. Firestone was Dan's first full-time professional photography job. His parents fled Germany in 1943 for the United States, and were sponsored by his grandparents. Dan's career gave him a front row seat chronicling the downturn of the rubber industry in Akron. He remembers the strikes and fondly reflects on life in Akron and his love of this town. Today, Dan runs his own photography studio in Cuyahoga Falls, and is often sought for his expertise in product and tire photography.
