A Sit Down

Tom Jones was born in Akron, Ohio, when it was still called the "Rubber Capital of the World." He worked at Firestone Tire & Rubber, just like his father (Donald Jones) and his grandfather, Haskell Jones, before him. Tom is the author of On a Burning Deck: An Oral History of the Great Migration, and shared some recordings and personal photographs about his family's connection to and experience in the rubber industry. They recall the strikes, life in Akron, and numerous historic and cultural anecdotes.
