Riveting
Edna Fitzpatrick was born in Oklahoma in 1923 and moved to Akron with her family in 1928. She was an original "Rosie the Riveter," and worked at Goodyear on the midsection of airplanes at Plant D. She went on to work at BF Goodrich on pontoons for bridges. She found her job to be safe, loved her work, and fondly recalls all of the recreational activities the community enjoyed like skating, swimming, dan dancing. She remembers how more women worked in the rubber companies than men did during World War II. Edna retired after 36 years of working in the rubber industry, and went on to work at Akron Children's Hospital as a supervisor on the neurology floor. She still lives in Akron.
