Rubber Leaving

Jack Hefner is the president of the United Steel Worker’s (USW) Local 2 in Akron, which was the old United Rubber Worker’s (URW) Local 2 until 1995, when it merged with the United Steel Worker’s Union. His father was president of the United Rubber Worker’s Local 9 from 1964 to 1972. Jack built tires at General Tire from 1972 until the plant closed in 1982, and then moved to Teledyne Monarch Rubber in Hartville (OH) for 3 1/2 years until they closed. In 1987, Jack started working at the old Goodyear Rim Plant, which was later bought out and became Maxion Wheels, which is where he still works today.
