Tire Sculptress
June Deer Black was a pioneer in the field of tire scupture for the rubber industry. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Ms. Black worked for Firestone from 1949-1963 , where she created clay models of tire tread and sidewalls, accurate to one-hundredth of an inch. Tire mold developers would then use the clay models to build production tire molds. Today, much of this work is accomplished using computer-aided design (CAD) technology.
